Beginning in November, fully vaccinated Canadian and Mexican citizens will be permitted to enter the United States at land-border crossings for nonessential travel.
Since March 2020, Canadian and Mexican citizens have been unable to enter the United States at land-border crossings for nonessential reasons, such as shopping and visiting family and friends. On October 12, 2021, the Biden administration announced intentions to ease Covid-19 travel restrictions on land-border crossings from Canada and Mexico for nonessential, fully vaccinated travelers beginning in November. The administration has not yet announced a specific day in November when the new rule will take effect.
Unvaccinated travelers will continue to only be permitted to enter at land-ports for essential travel. It is anticipated that beginning in January 2022, the vaccination requirement will be extended to all travelers (essential and nonessential) entering at land-border crossings.
